การศึกษาวิธีการถ่ายทอดความคิดเชิงวัฒนธรรมเริ่มต้นจากการศึกษาสามตัวแปรต้นได้แก่ 1) ความหมายของวัฒนธรรมในเชิงจิตวิทยา 2) ศิลปินกรณีศึกษา และ 3) การลงพื้นที่ภาคสนามของผู้วิจัย การศึกษาตัวแปรต้นทั้งสามนำมาสู่ตัวแปรตามที่ผู้วิจัยใช้ในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานศิลปะ จะขอกล่าวถึงรายละเอียดของตัวแปรต้นดังต่อไปนี้
