นายสุกฤตย์ สุรบถโสภณ ประธานกลุ่มอุตสาหกรรมโรงกลั่นน้ำมันปิโตรเลียม สภาอุตสาหกรรมแห่งประเทศไทย เปิดเผยถึงทิศทางและแนวโน้มสถานการณ์น้ำมันของโลกในปี 2559 ว่าทิศทางราคาน้ำมันดิบในตลาดโลกในปีหน้า คาดว่าจะยังคงผันผวนและมีแนวโน้มปรับตัวเพิ่มขึ้นเล็กน้อยเมื่อเทียบปี 2558 โดยราคาน้ำมันดิบดูไบอยู่ในระดับ 53-56 เหรียญสหรัฐต่อบาร์เรล (ประมาณการราคาเฉลี่ยปี 2558 อยู่ที่ 53 เหรียญสหรัฐฯ ต่อบาร์เรล) ทั้งนี้ จากการที่สหรัฐฯ สามารถผลิตน้ำมันดิบได้อย่างต่อเนื่อง ทำให้ สามารถลดการพึ่งพาการนำเข้าน้ำมันดิบลงได้ ประกอบกับกลุ่มโอเปก เช่น ซาอุดิอาระเบีย ที่ยังผลิตน้ำมันอย่างต่อเนื่องจากซาอุดิอาระเบีย และการกลับมาส่งออกน้ำมันของอิรักและอิหร่าน ส่งผลให้มีปริมาณน้ำมันในตลาดค่อนข้างมาก อย่างไรก็ตาม ราคาน้ำมันดิบมีโอกาสเคลื่อนไหวเกินกรอบที่คาดการณ์ไว้หากเกิดเหตุการณ์ที่ไม่คาดคิด เช่น ความขัดแย้งในกลุ่มประเทศตะวันออกกลางและแอฟริกาเหนือหรือภัยพิบัติทางธรรมชาติ อย่างไรก็ดี ซึ่งจะส่งผลกระทบต่อราคาน้ำมันดิบในระยะเวลาสั้นๆ เท่านั้น
