สหกรณ์การเกษตรแห่งแรกได้จัดตั้งขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2459 ชื่อว่า "สหกรณ์วัดจันทร์ไม่จำกัดสินใช้" ที่จังหวัดพิษณุโลก เป็นสหกรณ์ชนิดไม่จำกัด มีขนาดเล็กในระดับหมู่บ้านตั้งขึ้นในหมู่เกษตรกรที่มีรายได้ต่ำและมีหนี้สินมาก มีสมาชิกแรกตั้งจำนวน 16 คน มีทุนดำเนินการจำนวน 3,080 บาท โดยเป็นทุนจากการกู้แบงก์สยามกัมมาจล (ธนาคารไทยพาณิชย์ ในปัจจุบัน) 3,000 บาท
