พิพิธภัณฑสถานเครื่องถ้วยเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ จัดตั้งขึ้นเนื่องในโอกาสครบรอบ 40 ปีมหาวิทยาลัยกรุงเทพ ซึ่งอาจารย์สุรัตน์ โอสถานุเคราะห์ ผู้ก่อตั้งมหาวิทยาลัยได้กรุณามอบศิลปโบราณวัตถุจำนวนกว่า 2,000 รายการ เพื่อให้เป็นแหล่งศึกษาหาความรู้ของนักเรียน นักศึกษา ตลอดจนบุคคลทั่วไปในอนาคต

ลักษณะทางสถาปัตยกรรมของพิพิธภัณฑสถานเป็นอาคารชั้นเดียวอยู่ใต้ดิน รูปแบบคอนกรีตเปลือยซึ่ง เปรียบเหมือนกับเตาเผาโบราณที่ฝังตัวอยู่ใต้ดิน ส่วนเครื่องถ้วยที่จัดแสดงอยู่ภายในห้องจัดแสดงอาจเปรียบ
