QM protein. The QM protein is a transcription cofactor
inhibiting the activity of AP-1 transcription factors and is also a
ribosomal protein participating in protein synthesis (Altinok
et al., 2006). A full length cDNA of QM protein gene (PjQM) was
cloned from M. japonicus. It consists of 779-bp nucleotide acid
and its deduced amino acid sequence was highly homologous with
QM proteins of other species. However no QM family signature was
found. The PjQM protein could interact with shrimp hemocyanin
and myosin, and regulate the activity of phenol oxidase, a key enzyme
in the proPO activation system of invertebrate immunity.
This discovery showed a novel aspect of QM protein in arthropod
immune response, which contributed a better understanding to
the still poorly understood molecular events involved in innate
immunity of arthropods
