การปฏิรูประบบการศึกษาเป็นประเด็นศึกษาที่หน่วยงานต่างๆ ทั้งภาครัฐและภาคเอกชนน่าจะให้ความสนใจอย่างมาก เนื่องจากหากระบบการศึกษาไทยไม่ได้รับการปฏิรูปแม้ว่าเราจะพยายามขยายโอกาสทางการศึกษาออกไปเป็น 9 ปี หรือ 12 ปี ตามที่กฎหมายรัฐธรรมนูญฉบับปัจจุบันระบุไว้ก็ตามก็จะไม่ได้ช่วยสร้างคนในชาติให้มีความรู้ความสามารถอย่างที่ควรจะเป็นในอดีตเราจะเห็นได้ว่ารัฐบาล และพรรคการเมืองที่มาจากการเลือกตั้งมักจะพิจารณาและจัดอันดับให้กระทรวงศึกษาธิการเป็นกระทรวงเกรดซีที่ไม่ค่อยมีความสำคัญมากนักเพราะเป็นกระทรวงที่มีผลประโยชน์ค่อนข้างน้อยเมื่อเปรียบเทียบกับหลายๆ กระทรวงแต่ในปัจจุบัน
