นายไพรินทร์ ชูโชติถาวร รัฐมนตรีช่วยว่าการกระทรวงคมนาคม และผู้บริหารกระทรวงคมนาคม ลงพื้นที่ติดตามความคืบหน้าการดำเนินงานของท่าอากาศยานอุดรธานี ในวันที่ 12 ธันวาคม 2561 ณ ท่าอากาศยานอุดรธานี จังหวัดอุดรธานี โดยมี นางอัมพวัน วรรณโก อธิบดีกรมท่าอากาศยาน นายวิทวัส ภักดีสันติสกุล รองอธิบดีกรมท่าอากาศยาน ผู้บริหารหน่วยงานในสังกัดกระทรวงฯ และเจ้าหน้าที่ ให้การต้อนรับ สำหรับท่าอากาศยานอุดรธานีมีอาคารผู้โดยสาร จำนวน 2 หลัง และมีพื้นที่รวม 19,459 ตารางเมตร สามารถรองรับผู้โดยสารในชั่วโมงเร่งด่วน จำนวน 1,200 คนต่อชั่วโมง หรือ 3.4 ล้านคนต่อปี มีลานจอดอากาศยานขนาด 135 x 590 เมตร สามารถรองรับอากาศยาน B737/A320 จำนวน 11 ลำในเวลาเดียวกัน และพื้นที่จอดรถยนต์สามารถจอดรถได้ จำนวน 665 คัน สำหรับเส้นทางการบินภายในประเทศมีจำนวน 6 เส้นทาง 56 เที่ยวบินต่อวัน ท่าอากาศยานอุดรธานีได้ดำเนินการตามแผนพัฒนาท่าอากาศยาน โดยมีโครงการก่อสร้างที่ดำเนินการแล้วเสร็จในปี 2561 ประกอบด้วย โครงการก่อสร้างอาคารดับเพลิง โครงการติดตั้งเครื่องตรวจอาวุธและวัตถุระเบิด EDS พร้อมสายพานลำเลียงสัมภาระ ห้องควบคุมและอุปกรณ์ จำนวน 2 ชุด โครงการก่อสร้างลานจอดเครื่องบิน และลานจอดรถยนต์เพิ่มเติม โครงการปรับปรุงระบบไฟฟ้าสนามบิน และโครงการก่อสร้างอาคารขนส่งสินค้าทางอากาศ สำหรับโครงการที่อยู่ระหว่างดำเนินการ ประกอบด้วย โครงการก่อสร้างอาคารที่พักอาศัย 3 ชั้น จำนวน 2 หลัง (24 ยูนิต) งบประมาณ จำนวน 41,356,000 บาท เริ่มต้นสัญญาเมื่อวันที่ 24 มีนาคม 2561 และสิ้นสุดสัญญาในวันที่ 13 กันยายน 2562 ปัจจุบันผลการดำเนินงานมีความคืบหน้า ร้อยละ 50 และโครงการงานก่อสร้างปรับปรุงระบบประปาและสุขาภิบาล งบประมาณ จำนวน 1,695,000 บาท เริ่มต้นสัญญาเมื่อวันที่ 21 กันยายน 2561 และสิ้นสุดสัญญาในวันที่ 19 ธันวาคม 2561 สำหรับผลการดำเนินงานมีความคืบหน้า ร้อยละ 80 นอกจากนี้ยังมีแผนพัฒนาท่าอากาศยานโดยจะดำเนินโครงการก่อสร้างอาคารที่พักผู้โดยสารหลังที่ 3 พร้อมปรับปรุงอาคารที่พักผู้โดยสารหลักที่ 1 และ 2 เพื่อเพิ่มขีดความสามารถในการรองรับผู้โดยสารเป็น 2,500 คนต่อชั่วโมง หรือ 7.4 ล้านคนต่อปี ซึ่งจะเริ่มดำเนินการในปี 2565 ทั้งนี้ นายไพรินทร์ ได้กำชับให้กรมท่าอากาศยานปฏิบัติตามกฎระเบียบต่าง ๆ ตามที่สำนักงานการบินพลเรือนแห่งประเทศไทยกำหนด พร้อมทั้งให้นำระบบคุณภาพ ISO 9000 มาใช้กับท่าอากาศยานทุกแห่ง เพื่อให้เป็นมาตรฐานเดียวกัน
