คือ การรู้คุณ และตอบแทนท่านผู้นั้น บุญคุณที่ว่านี้มิใช่ว่าตอบแทนกันแล้วก็หายกัน แต่หมายถึงการรำลึกถึงพระคุณที่เคยให้ความอุปการะแก่เราด้วยความเคารพยิ่ง ท่านว่าสิ่งของหรือผู้ที่ควรกตัญญูนั้นมีดังนี้

๑.กตัญญูต่อบุคคล บุคคลที่ควรกตัญญูก็คือ ใครก็ตามที่มีบุญคุณควรระลึกถึงและตอบแทนพระคุณ เช่น บิดา มารดา อาจารย์ เป็นต้น

๒.กตัญญูต่อสัตว์ ได้แก่สัตว์ที่มีคุณต่อเราช่วยทำงานให้เรา เราก็ควรเลี้ยงดูให้ดีเช่นช้าง ม้า วัว ควาย หรือสุนัขที่ช่วยเฝ้าบ้าน เป็นต้น

๓.กตัญญูต่อสิ่งของ ได้แก่สิ่งของทุกอย่างที่มีคุณต่อเราเช่น หนังสือที่ให้ความรู้แก่เรา อุปกรณ์ทำมาหากินต่างๆ เราไม่ควรทิ้งคว้าง หรือทำลายโดยไม่เห็นคุณค่า
