แนวคิดนี้ได้รับการสนับสนุนจากรัฐบาลเมื่อปี พ.ศ.2556 โดยกระทรวงพลังงานมีนโยบายรับซื้อไฟฟ้า จากการผลิตพลังงานจากโซลาร์รูฟ ในราคาพิเศษ Feed In Tariff สัญญาระยะยาว 25 ปี ทำให้บ้านเก่ามีการดัดแปลงเพื่อติดตั้งแผงแสงอาทิตย์บนหลัง (Solar PV Rooftop) เพื่อผลิตพลังงานไฟฟ้าขาย นับว่าเป็นนโยบายที่กระตุ้นการผลิตพลังงานใช้เองและยังสร้างรายได้อีกด้วย นับเป็นรูปแบบการปรับเปลี่ยนอาคารเก่าให้มีคุณค่ามากกว่าการเป็น “อาคาร”
