เกาะล้าน อยู่ทางทิศตะวันตกของเมืองพัทยา จากชายหาดเมืองพัทยาจะสามารถมองเห็นเกาะล้านได้ชัดเจน เพราะอยู่ห่างจากฝั่งออกไปเพียงประมาณ 7.5 กิโลเมตร การเดินทางโดยทางเรือเร็ว ใช้เวลาเดินทางประมาณ 15 นาที และเรือโดยสารประมาณ 40 นาที หมู่เกาะล้านแต่เดิมเป็นที่รู้จักในหมู่นักท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติ ในนามว่า “หมู่เกาะปะการัง” (Coral Islands) เพราะอุดมไปด้วยปะการังนานาชนิด เป็นแหล่งปะการังที่สมบูรณ์แห่งหนึ่งของประเทศและใกล้กรุงเทพฯ มากที่สุด โดยมีเกาะครกและเกาะสากเป็นบริวาร
