กระบวนการพยาบาล หมายถึง ลำดับขั้นตอ

กระบวนการพยาบาล หมายถึง ลำดับขั้นตอนของการดูแลผู้ป่วยที่มีการวางแผนและการปฏิบัติอย่างเป็นระบบ เพื่อตอบสนองความต้องการและแก้ไขปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้น
ยกตัวอย่างการใช้กระบวนการพยาบาล; ถ้ามีผู้ป่วยเด็กมาโรงพยาบาลเนื่องจากมีไข้เราก็ต้องใช้กระบวนการพยาบาลตั้งแต่ขั้นตอนที่ 1. Assesment คือต้องซักประวัติเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลทั้ง objective data และ subjective data เช่นมีอาการไข้ หายใจหอบเหนื่อย มีเสมหะมาก 1 วันก่อนมาโรงพยาบาล แล้วนำข้อมูลไปวินิจฉัยโรคในขั้นตอนที่ 2. Diagnosis เป็นขั้นตอนของการตัดสินว่าปัญหาหรือสภาวะสุขภาพของผู้รับบริการที่เกิดขึ้นในขณะนั้นคืออะไร ซึ่งอาจจะมีหลายปัญหาเช่น ปัญหาไข้สูง ปัญหาเรื่องการหายใจเป็นต้น เมื่อได้ปัญหาแล้วก็มาจัดลำดับความสำคัญในขั้นตอนที่ 3. Nursing care plane และปฏิบัติจริงในขั้นตอนที่ 4. Nursing Intervention และลำดับสุดท้ายลำดับที่ 5. Evaluation ขั้นตอนการประเมินผลว่าเป็นไปตามวัตถุประสงค์หรือไม่ เช่นผู้ป่วยมีอาการดีขึ้นตามแผน แต่ถ้าไม่เป็นไปตามวัตถุประสงค์ก็ต้องมีการปรับแผนใหม่
