ในกิจกรรมทางการค้าระหว่างประเทศนั้น จะมีสามสัญญาหลักเข้ามาเกี่ยวข้องดังนี้ สัญญาการซื้อขายระหว่างประเทศ สัญญาการขนส่งระหว่างประเทศ และสัญญาการชำระเงินระหว่างประเทศ ซึ่งแต่ละสัญญานั้นจะมีกฎหมายหรือประเพณีทางการค้าเข้ามาใช้บังคับในสัญญานั้นๆ
