Ligno-cellulosic biomass is not part of the human food
chain, and therefore its use for biogas or bio-oil does not threaten
the world’s food supply [2]. Ligno-cellulosic feedstock requires
hydrolysis pretreatment (acid, enzymatic, or hydrothermal) to
break down the cellulose and hemicellulose into simple sugars
needed by the yeast and bacteria for the fermentation process
[2]. Lignocellulose being the main component of biomass, gigantic
quantities of it is generated across the globe. Agricultural residues—
presently deemed waste—contain massive quantities of
