รัฐบาลซิมบับเว ประกาศยกเลิกการใช้เงินสกุลดอลลาร์ซิมบับเวในประเทศและยอมรับการใช้เงินสกุลอื่นในประเทศอย่างเป็นทางการในวันที่ 12 เมษายน 2552 โดยกล่าวว่า จะหยุดใช้เงินสกุลนี้ไปอย่างน้อยหนึ่งปี จนกว่าประเทศจะพร้อมกลับไปใช้เงินสกุลนี้อีกครั้ง เพื่อให้ระบบเศรษฐกิจเยียวยาตัวมันเอง นับจากวันนั้น ภาวะเงินเฟ้อในซิมบับเวลดลงสู่ระดับเกือบปกติในทันที และไม่เคยพุ่งสูงอีกเลย และจนถึงปัจจุบัน รัฐบาลเลิกใช้เงินสกุลนี้มีแล้วหลายปี แต่ก็ยังไม่ได้ให้ประเทศกลับไปใช้เงินสกุลนี้แต่อย่างใด
