ประเทศลาวมีวัฒนธรรมลาวที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์ของตนเอง นับถือศาสนาพุทธนิกายเถรวาทที่ได้รับอิทธิพลจากอินเดีย และได้รับอิทธิพลจากวัฒนธรรมจีนด้วย สามารถเห็นได้จากภาษา ศิลปะ วรรณคดี วิถีชีวิตของชาวลาวได้รับอิทธิพลจากศาสนาพุทธมากทำให้ชาวลาวเป็นผู้มีความอดทนและยอมรับการเปลี่ยนแปลงได้ดี
