ส่งออกเครื่องบินและชิ้นส่วนเครื่องบิน มูลค่ากว่า 142,241 ล้านบาท และในปี พ.ศ. 2556 ระหว่างเดือนมกราคมถึงเดือนสิงหาคมมีมูลค่าการนำเข้า-ส่งออกเครื่องบินและชิ้นส่วนเครื่องบินกว่า 137,224 ล้านบาท เติบโตกว่า ร้อยละ 93 เมื่อเทียบกับช่วงเดียวกันของปีก่อน (มหานครอาเซียน, 2558)
จากการคมนาคมขนส่งทางอากาศมีความสะดวก รวดเร็ว และมีความปลอดภัยสูง เมื่อเปรียบเทียบกับการเดินทางทั้งทางบกหรือทางน้ำ อุตสาหกรรมการบินจึงเกิดสภาวะการแข่งขัน
ที่รุนแรงมากขึ้นทั้งทางด้านการบริการและการสร้างความปลอดภัย เพื่อที่จะสร้างความพอใจและความมั่นใจให้กับผู้โดยสาร ซึ่งจะส่งผลให้จำนวนผู้โดยสารเพิ่มมากขึ้น นอกจากนี้ในอุตสาหกรรม การบินยังมีองค์กรต่าง ๆ ทำหน้าที่ควบคุมดูแลเกี่ยวกับความปลอดภัยทางการบินและการให้บริการซ่อมบำรุงอากาศยาน หน่วยงานที่ควบคุมดูแลเกี่ยวกับความปลอดภัยทางการของประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา และในประเทศไทยมีหน่วยงานของรัฐที่ทำหน้าที่ควบคุมดูแลคือ กรมการบินพาณิชย์ ซึ่งสายการบินต่าง ๆ จะต้องปฏิบัติตามข้อกำหนดเพื่อให้เกิดความเป็นมาตรฐานและสามารถตรวจสอบได้ และฝ่ายช่าง บริษัท การบินไทย จำกัด (มหาชน) มีหน้าที่ให้บริการซ่อมบำรุงอากาศยานให้อยู่ในสภาพพร้อมทุกระบบ (เครื่องยนต์ ลำตัว และไฮดรอลิกส์ ไฟฟ้า) ก่อนส่งอากาศยานขึ้นบิน
ฝ่ายช่าง บริษัท การบินไทย จำกัด (มหาชน) เป็นหน่วยงานที่มีหน้าที่ให้บริการซ่อมบำรุงอากาศยานของบริษัทและอากาศยานของสายการบินทั่วโลก ตามมาตรฐานการซ่อมบำรุงสากล โดยได้รับการรับรองจากกรมการขนส่งทางอากาศแห่งประเทศไทย องค์การขนส่งทางอากาศของต่างประเทศที่สำคัญ ได้แก่ องค์การบริหารการบินแห่ง องค์การร่วมบริหารการบินแห่งยุโรป ในการปฏิบัติงานซ่อมบำรุงเครื่องบิน ฝ่าย
