สิงคโปร์เป็นประเทศสมาชิกอาเซียนที่เปิดให้มีการค้าอย่างเสรีโดยมีมาตรการควบคุมการส่งออก-นำเข้าสินค้าเพียงบางรายการทั้งยังเป็นประเทศที่ทำธุรกิจในลักษณะ Trading Hub ดังนั้นประเทศไทยควรใช้สิงคโปร์เป็นแหล่งส่งออก (Re-export) สินค้าไปสู่ประเทศที่สามเพื่อขยายการส่งออกโดยอาศัยจุดแข็งของสิงคโปร์ในด้านการจัดการการเงินการธนาคารการสื่อสารและการคมนาคมขนส่ง

สิงคโปร์มีนโยบาย Regionalization คือจะทำการค้าและการลงทุนกับประเทศในเอเชียมากขึ้น ดังนั้นไทยควรพิจารณาร่วมลงทุนกับสิงคโปร์ทั้งในด้านการผลิตและการตลาดเพื่อเจาะตลาดในภูมิภาค

นโยบายการค้าตลาดเสรี ไม่มีการเรียกเก็บภาษีนำเข้า (ยกเว้นสินค้า 4 รายการ คือ 1. เครื่องดื่มที่ผสมแอลกอฮอล์ 2. บุหรี่และยาสูบ 3. น้ำมันปิโตรเลียม และ 4. รถยนต์/รถจักรยานยนต์) มีแต่การเก็บภาษีสินค้าและบริการ (Goods and Services Tax:GST) 7%
