Please describe why you are applying to the Ivey MBA program and describe how our program will
help you meet your future goals. (500 words)
After working for ABC as the engineering and project management director and now for XYZ as a senior
business and IT consultant, I have successfully contributed to numerous challenging projects. Currently, I am
working on consulting projects for telecom and service providers by helping them launch new services or
ensure initiatives are designed and funded within the budget and in-line with corporate strategies. I daily use
management, technical, leadership and communication skills, all of which I perfected at XYZ. I take part in
business meetings, participate in strategic decision-making and manage teams. In parallel over the past five
years, I have managed - especially during my father’s illness - a small family business. We specialize in sales
and distribution of diet and sports nutrition and health care products imported from Europe and the
Americas to Thailand. This experience added a tremendous experience to my life.
Throughout nine years of professional experience, I have matured and learned a lot about myself: I learned
where my strengths and weaknesses lie, that I am a passionate, committed and resourceful person; that I
enjoy managing and leading challenging business projects and that I have a strong desire to participate in
development of society and to advance the common good. Although these experiences were highly
enriching, I have had concerns about my career progress and making the move to a senior executive position.
I realized that I needed to expand my professional horizons and acquire a solid business education that would
complement my technical-quantitative and project management skills.
I have several projects that I would like to pursue during and a few years after my MBA, such as creating a
business for promotion and development of tourism and services in developing countries, to create or join a
private equity firm, a joint venture or a venture capital firm focusing on new business development and
supporting local/international entrepreneurs in their business with these developing countries.
Regarding my career goals, I want to be able to develop and transform these business ideas into executable
implementation plans to ensure that these ideas will be the source of wealth and good for business partners
and communities. This is where I want to be within five to eight years after completing my MBA.
I expect that the Ivey MBA will most help me develop the business foundation necessary to achieve my
career goals. I have met and discussed with some of Ivey’s alumni, all of whom have emphasized the spirited,
cooperative and team-based qualities of both academic and social life while working on the MBA, combined
with a unique case-study teaching and learning method. This is exactly the type of environment in which I
learn and work best. Many businesses approach projects with a similar team-based strategy and require
collaborative leaders who can address any business challenge. Thanks to Ivey’s world-renowned research
faculty, I will greatly benefit from practical experience while studying real-world cases and learning how to
tackle strategy implementation problems. Moreover, Ivey offers an innovative and continuously reviewed
curriculum. Ivey’s multidisciplinary-integrated approach to building a unique set of general management and
international business skills is essential for my career progress. The large choice of electives in the second
year will allow me to focus on my personal learning objectives and foster my entrepreneurial spirit through
Ivey’s Institute for Entrepreneurship.
Furthermore, my MBA experience will be enhanced because Ivey and the City of London attract people with
broad business and international experiences. Finally, Ivey has advisory boards in Europe and Asia that
provide its alumni with various business opportunities and connections all over the world. I am convinced
that my social background, personality, personal and professional experiences and my education can
contribute to the classes and to Ivey’s student body. I strongly believe that Ivey will help me build the
