In general, the Planning functions keep track of forecasts and item availability.
Planners Workbench is the main control center for planning processes.
It allows you to run Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and Capable To
Promise (CTP) planning and provides a number of utilities that support the planning process.
You can view inventory levels and activity, search for material and capacity problems, determine the scope of potential problems, view pegging for orders, reschedule orders, and plan new orders.
Planners Workbench provides a dynamic view of the planning process.
As inventory levels and order status changes, the information provided by Planners
Workbench also changes to reflect the new situation, so you always have the most current information available.
If you are running CTP for a specific sales demand, you can do this directly from the SO CTP Dashboard without needing to go to Planners Workbench.
You can also select the specific sales orders, sales forecasts, or existing master schedules that you would like to run CTP Planning for in the same planning session using the CTP Range Planning form.
Buyers Workbench is used to control planned and released purchase orders.
You can view inventory order information, delivery and quality statistics, vendor information, Request for Quote (RFQ) information, pegging for orders, and scan for materials that need to be purchased. Purchase orders can be entered and released using links on the Buyers Workbench. There are also links to the Inventory and Vendor Card.
The Master Schedule, Sales Forecast, and Shop Calendar are also entered and maintained in the planning cycle. Planning Utilities can be used to scan for and fix planning data problems and enter and update Planning Policy Groups.
The planning cycle also has a number of reports available to assist in managing the planning process.
