Khao Yam (spicy rice) or its geographic origin, and to make more specific, Khao Yam Pak Tai (Southern spicy-rice issue) is a close cousin of Nyonya herbal rice salad, Nasi Ulam, from our southerly neighbor, Malaysia (you see much overlap between southern Thai and Malaysian cuisine cuisine). It consists mostly of cooked long grain rice, assorted fresh vegetables and herbs, as well as a unique fermented fish sauce dressing called featuring budu (Buena view).
