ห้องสมุดสถาบันอุดมศึกษามีหน้าที่หลักในการส่งเสริมการเรียนการสอนการวิจัย ทำนุบำรุงศิลปวัฒนธรรม บริการทางวิชาการแก่สถาบันอุดมศึกษาทุกระบบการศึกษาและสังคม ตลอดจนส่งเสริมการเรียนรู้ด้วย ตนเองอย่างต่อเนื่อง และตลอดชีวิต ตามมาตรฐานห้องสมุดสถาบันอุดมศึกษา พ.ศ. 2544

ปัจจุบันห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีราชมงคลศรีวิชัย ได้มีการบันทึกข้อมูลหนังสือ วิทยานิพนธ์ รายงานการวิจัย ปริญญานิพนธ์ มาตรฐานอุตสาหกรรม วารสาร และ สื่อต่างๆ รวมทั้งการให้บริการยืม- คืน ตลอดจนการให้บริการสืบค้น ข้อมูลผ่านระบบอินเทอร์เน็ต และการบริการระหว่างห้องสมุดอื่นๆ โดยผ่านจดหมายอิเลกทรอนิกส์ ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีราชมงคลศรีวิชัย เน้นถึงความสำคัญของห้องสมุดที่ต้องมีระบบการจัดการให้เป็นศูนย์การเรียนรู้ เป็นแหล่งรวบรวมทรัพยากรหลากหลายประเภท และให้ความสำคัญกับการให้บริการเป็นเครือข่าย เพื่อผู้ใช้ สามารถเข้าถึงทรัพยากรสารสนเทศในห้องสมุดได้ไม่ว่าจะอยู่ที่ใดก็ตาม สำหรับห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีราชมงคลศรีวิชัย เปิดให้บริการช่วงเปิดภาคการศึกษา วันจันทร์ – วันศุกร์ ตั้งแต่เวลา 08.30-16.00 น. การศึกษาเรื่องความพึงพอใจในการใช้บริการห้องสมุด จึงเป็นแนวทางในการปรับปรุงงานบริการต่างๆ ที่มีอยู่เดิมให้ผู้ใช้ได้รับความพึงพอใจมากที่สุด เพื่อการพัฒนาอย่างต่อเนื่อง
